Moderate

Join a daily shared 2-hour guided tour of Pompeii with a professional licensed guide and skip-the-line entrance tickets included. Discover the history of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and see one of the best-preserved ancient Roman cities in the world.

Enjoy an essential yet complete introduction to one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world with this 2-hour shared guided tour of Pompeii, including skip-the-line entrance tickets.

Meet your professional licensed guide at the designated meeting point near the entrance to the archaeological site and enter Pompeii using your skip-the-line ticket, avoiding long queues at the ticket office. Once inside, your guide will lead you through the ancient streets and bring the city back to life with engaging stories and explanations.

Learn about the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, which suddenly buried Pompeii under ash and pumice, preserving buildings, streets and everyday objects for centuries. As you walk through the ruins, you will see houses, shops, public buildings and squares that give an extraordinary insight into daily life in Roman times.

Excavations, which began in the 18th century under Charles III of Bourbon, have revealed one of the most complete and best-preserved examples of a Roman city. The large number of finds has allowed historians and archaeologists to understand habits, customs, diet and lifestyle from over two millennia ago.

Thanks to this, Pompeii is considered one of the most important testimonies of ancient Roman civilization. In 1997, the ruins of Pompeii, together with Herculaneum and Oplontis, were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List to ensure their protection and preservation.

During the tour, your guide will show you some of the site’s most representative areas (according to accessibility and daily conditions), helping you understand not only the history of the eruption, but also the social and cultural life of the people who lived here.

At the end of the 2-hour guided visit, you can choose to remain inside the site to continue exploring on your own (if allowed by ticket type and schedule) or leave the area.

This tour is ideal for first-time visitors who want a clear, structured and informative introduction to Pompeii in a limited amount of time.

Important information / Good to know

      Pompeii tickets – ID requirement

It is mandatory for all participants to carry a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. The personal details provided at the time of booking (e.g. first and last name) must exactly match those on the ID, as Pompeii tickets are nominative and non-transferable.

Local staff at the archaeological site are entitled to check IDs at the entrance. In case of discrepancies, spelling errors or missing information, they may refuse entry to one or more participants at their sole discretion.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible for any refusal of entry due to incorrect or incomplete data provided by the participants, and no refund will be due in such cases.

      Weather, clothing and itinerary

The tour runs in all weather conditions; we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a light jacket and an umbrella. Pompeii involves walking on uneven and often cobbled surfaces, so suitable footwear is essential. Any waiting times during stops (for explanations, security checks or photo opportunities) may occur and are not dependent on the organization.

The guide reserves the right to modify or adjust the route inside the archaeological site if necessary for operational or safety reasons (for example due to crowding, temporary closures of some areas, restoration works or weather conditions).

Contact details and meet & greet

To ensure smooth meet & greet operations, we strongly recommend that at least one participant provides a mobile phone number that is active and reachable in Italy (ideally the same number entered at the time of booking).

We also highly recommend downloading and using the WhatsApp messaging app, which allows our ground staff or local provider to contact you quickly in case of any changes or difficulties in locating each other at the meeting point.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible if participants are unable to meet our staff or guide at the agreed meeting point due to being unreachable or not answering calls/messages.
