4 hours

Moderate

Join a shared half-day tour from Naples to discover the ancient ruins of Pompeii with an expert licensed guide. Travel from a central meeting point, enjoy a guided visit and benefit from skip-the-line entrance tickets included.

Step back in time with a shared daily tour from Naples to Pompeii, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the world, buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Meet your tour leader or driver at the designated meeting point in Naples and depart by coach or minivan towards Pompeii. Upon arrival, use your skip-the-line entrance ticket to access the archaeological area and meet your professional licensed guide, who will lead you through the ruins and bring the ancient city back to life.

During your guided tour, you will learn about the history, customs and daily life of this millenary Roman city and its inhabitants. Under Roman rule, Pompeii became first a municipium and later a colony known as “Colonia Veneria Cornelia Pompeianorum”. It soon developed into a favorite holiday destination for the Roman elite, and during the Imperial age many wealthy families who supported Augustus chose to build their residences here. Important public buildings such as the Temple of Fortuna Augusta and the Eumachia Building date back to this flourishing period.

You will walk along the famous Via dell’Abbondanza, once one of the most lively streets in Pompeii. Lined with taverns, bakeries, workshops, laundries, greengrocers and private houses, this main decumanus passed near the Forum and the Comitium and was at the very heart of the city’s daily life from the early hours of the morning.

As you explore houses, shops, public spaces and streets still marked by cart tracks, your guide will explain how the city suddenly came to a halt when Vesuvius erupted, and how the ash and pumice preserved Pompeii for centuries.

At the end of the guided visit, you will have some free time (if included in your program) before meeting your group again and returning to Naples, where the tour will end at the original meeting point.

A perfect solution if you are staying in Naples and want to visit Pompeii in one easy, well-organized half-day.

      Pompeii tickets – ID requirement

It is mandatory for all participants to carry a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. The personal details provided at the time of booking (e.g. first and last name) must exactly match those on the ID, as Pompeii tickets are nominative and non-transferable.

Local staff at the archaeological site are entitled to check IDs at the entrance. In case of discrepancies, spelling errors or missing information, they may refuse entry to one or more participants at their sole discretion.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible for any refusal of entry due to incorrect or incomplete data provided by the participants, and no refund will be due in such cases.

      Weather, clothing and itinerary

The tour runs in all weather conditions; we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a light jacket and an umbrella. Any waiting times during stops (for explanations, security checks or photo opportunities) may occur and are not dependent on the organization.

The guide and tour leader reserve the right to modify or adjust the itinerary if necessary for operational or safety reasons (for example due to traffic, site regulations or unexpected closures).

Contact details and meet & greet

To ensure smooth meet & greet operations, we strongly recommend that at least one participant provides a mobile phone number that is active and reachable in Italy (ideally the same number entered at the time of booking).

We also highly recommend downloading and using the WhatsApp messaging app, which allows our ground staff and tour leader to contact you quickly in case of any changes or difficulties in locating each other at the meeting point.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible if participants are unable to meet our staff at the agreed meeting point due to being unreachable or not answering calls/messages.
