Discover Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day on a shared tour from Naples. Visit two ancient Roman cities buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD with skip-the-line tickets, professional guide, transportation and Neapolitan pizza lunch included.

Discover two of the most important archaeological sites in the world on this daily tour from Naples that combines Pompeii and Herculaneum, with skip-the-line entrance tickets and a traditional Neapolitan pizza lunch included.

Meet at the designated meeting point in Naples and travel by shared vehicle towards Pompeii, once a thriving Roman city before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The violent explosion covered the town with ash and lapilli, preserving buildings, streets and everyday objects for centuries almost intact.

With your professional guide, you will enter Pompeii using your skip-the-line ticket and explore some of its most significant areas (route may vary according to crowding and opening times). As you walk along the ancient streets, you will see houses, shops, public spaces and perhaps a bath complex or a theatre, while learning about daily life, social habits and the dramatic events of the eruption.

After the guided tour in Pompeii, enjoy a classic pizza lunch, typically including a Pizza Margherita or Marinara and 1 soft drink per person (additional food or drinks can be purchased on the spot at your own expense). This break is the perfect opportunity to experience one of Naples’ most famous specialties before continuing your archaeological journey.

You will then move on to Herculaneum, a smaller but incredibly well-preserved site that offers a different perspective from Pompeii. While Pompeii was buried mainly by ash and pumice, Herculaneum was submerged by flows of mud and volcanic material that covered buildings to the upper floors, sealing them in extraordinary detail.

Here you will visit the ruins using your skip-the-line ticket and:

  • Be accompanied by a professional guide, or
  • In case of fewer than 6 participants, your guided visit may be replaced by a multilingual audio guide, allowing you to discover the site at your own pace while listening to detailed commentary.

Herculaneum’s compact size and excellent state of preservation make it easier to appreciate multi-story houses, wooden elements, mosaics, frescoes and even everyday objects that have survived almost 2,000 years.

At the end of the visit, you will return to Naples by shared vehicle, having gained a deep understanding of how the eruption of Mount Vesuvius impacted two neighboring cities in different ways.

Important information / Good to know

Pompeii tickets – ID requirement

It is mandatory for all participants to carry a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. The personal details provided at the time of booking (e.g. first and last name) must exactly match those on the ID, as Pompeii tickets are nominative and non-transferable.

Local staff at the archaeological site are entitled to check IDs at the entrance. In case of discrepancies, spelling errors or missing information, they may refuse entry to one or more participants at their sole discretion.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible for any refusal of entry due to incorrect or incomplete data provided by the participants, and no refund will be due in such cases.

Weather, clothing and itinerary

The tour runs in all weather conditions; we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a light jacket and an umbrella. Both Pompeii and Herculaneum involve walking on uneven and often cobbled surfaces, so suitable footwear is essential. Any waiting times during stops (for explanations, security checks or photo opportunities) may occur and are not dependent on the organization.

The guide and local staff reserve the right to modify or adjust the itinerary (including the order of visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum) if necessary for operational or safety reasons (for example due to traffic, temporary closures of some areas, restoration works or weather conditions).

Contact details and meet & greet

To ensure smooth meet & greet operations, we strongly recommend that at least one participant provides a mobile phone number that is active and reachable in Italy (ideally the same number entered at the time of booking).

We also highly recommend downloading and using the WhatsApp messaging app, which allows our ground staff or local provider to contact you quickly in case of any changes or difficulties in locating each other at the meeting point.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible if participants are unable to meet our staff or guide at the agreed meeting point due to being unreachable or not answering calls/messages.
