6 hours

Moderate

See the best of Pompeii and Naples in just half a day on a shared guided tour from Naples. Enjoy a guided visit of the Pompeii ruins with skip-the-line entrance tickets included, then discover the highlights of Naples with our local staff.

Make the most of your time in Campania with a half-day shared tour that combines two must-see destinations: Pompeii and Naples, both departing from Naples.

Meet our local staff at the designated meeting point in Naples and set off towards Pompeii, once a flourishing seaside city of around 20,000 residents before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The eruption covered the town in ash and pumice, preserving buildings, streets, everyday objects and even natural molds of bodies, offering an extraordinary window into ancient Roman life.

With your professional licensed guide and skip-the-line entrance ticket, you will enter the archaeological site and visit some of its most significant areas. Walk through the Forum, the political and commercial heart of Pompeii; admire elegant homes such as the House of the Vettii; and see the Lupanar, the city’s most famous brothel, known for its well-preserved erotic frescoes. As you explore, your guide will explain how people lived, worked and spent their free time here almost 2,000 years ago.

After the visit to Pompeii, you will return to Naples, the third largest city in Italy and the regional capital of Campania. Accompanied by our local staff, you will discover some of the city’s main highlights and viewpoints.

In the Town Hall Square area, you will see the Maschio Angioino (New Castle), originally built by the French Angevin dynasty. You will then reach the Posillipo district, where a panoramic terrace near the Church of Sant’Antonio offers one of the best views over Naples and the Bay of Naples.

You will return to the city center in Piazza del Plebiscito, framed by the façade of the Royal Palace and the neoclassical Basilica of San Francesco di Paola. Nearby you can admire the historic Galleria Umberto I with its elegant glass dome and the exterior of the Teatro San Carlo, one of the oldest and most prestigious opera houses in the world.

This half-day shared experience is ideal if you want an essential yet complete overview of both the archaeological site of Pompeii and the city of Naples in a limited amount of time, with logistics and local support already organized for you.

      Itinerary and traffic conditions

The order of visits and the exact duration of stops may vary depending on traffic conditions and local events. In particular:

      • In case of heavy traffic, some panoramic sections in Naples may be shortened or adjusted.
      • During special events, demonstrations or road closures, the city center of Naples may be accessible only on foot. In such cases, the Naples portion of the tour will be adapted as a walking visit, without changing the overall essence of the experience.

Our local staff will always do their best to optimize timing and itinerary on the day of the tour.

      Pompeii tickets – ID requirement

It is mandatory for all participants to carry a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. The personal details provided at the time of booking (e.g. first and last name) must exactly match those on the ID, as Pompeii tickets are nominative and non-transferable.

Local staff at the archaeological site are entitled to check IDs at the entrance. In case of discrepancies, spelling errors or missing information, they may refuse entry to one or more participants at their sole discretion.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible for any refusal of entry due to incorrect or incomplete data provided by the participants, and no refund will be due in such cases.

      Weather, clothing and itinerary

The tour runs in all weather conditions; we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a light jacket and an umbrella. Any waiting times during stops (for explanations, security checks, traffic or photo opportunities) may occur and are not dependent on the organization.

The guide in Pompeii and our local staff in Naples reserve the right to modify or adjust the itinerary if necessary for operational or safety reasons (for example due to traffic jams, road closures or unexpected events).

Contact details and meet & greet

To ensure smooth meet & greet operations, we strongly recommend that at least one participant provides a mobile phone number that is active and reachable in Italy (ideally the same number entered at the time of booking).

We also highly recommend downloading and using the WhatsApp messaging app, which allows our ground staff and local team to contact you quickly in case of any changes or difficulties in locating each other at the meeting point.

Discover Italy cannot be held responsible if participants are unable to meet our staff at the agreed meeting point due to being unreachable or not answering calls/messages.
